Human trafficking is the modern day form of slavery. It is the illegal trade in human beings for reasons such as sexual exploitation, forced labour, domestic servitude, forced criminal activity or removal of human organs. Children, women and men are held against their will, bought, sold and transported into slavery.
There are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in history; an estimated 40 million men, women and children. One in four slaves are children under 18.
Migrant Help is one of the leading providers of specialist support and accommodation services for adult victims and their dependants in the UK. We have dedicated casework teams assisting victims in Scotland, Northern Ireland and England.
In England, we provide this service as a subcontractor to The Salvation Army under the Modern Slavery Victim Care contract. This client leaflet outlines what the service includes.
Our approach centred on each client's individual needs. We develop a support plan which provides all-round care with the aim of empowering our clients as they recover from the trauma they have endured. Ultimately, our main priorities are reducing the risk of re-trafficking and empowering our clients to gain in confidence and move forward to a new and positive chapter in their lives.
