An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of your permission to stay in the UK. You will need a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access your eVisa. eVisas replace Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) cards which will no longer be issued for people granted permission after 31 October 2024.

When will I receive my eVisa?

Expand

If you have received a positive decision on your asylum claim after 31 October 2024, the Home Office will create your UKVI account for you.

The Home Office will send you information about how to sign in to your UKVI account and access your eVisa, by email and post, within 14 calendar days of the positive decision on your asylum claim.

Once you receive your UKVI account details, you should sign in immediately to view your eVisa. If there is a problem with your eVisa, you should report it within 10 days.

When will my asylum support end?

Expand

Your asylum support will stop 28 days after your discontinuation letter is received. It is classed as received two days after it has been issued by the Home Office. This will be a minimum of 56 days since you were notified of the decision on your asylum application. Your accommodation provider will give you a minimum of seven days’ notice to leave your accommodation, in a Notice to Quit letter. This will confirm the date your accommodation will end. It is important that you start making plans as soon as you receive your asylum decision so that you are ready to move on.

I cannot access my account to receive a share code

Expand

The DWP and the local authority will be able to access information directly regarding your immigration status. You need to ensure that you are contacting them and applying for the relevant benefits or seeking housing advice.

If you are unable to access your account, you can call the UKVI Resolution Centre on 0300 790 6268 who can help you generate a share code. You will need your UKVI customer reference number.

Your asylum support will not be extended, and you will be expected to leave after the 28-day move on period.

My eVisa is incorrect

Expand

If you have logged into your account and found errors on your eVisa, you need to report these straight away, otherwise your support maybe discontinued prior to the details being updated.

Errors may include any of the following:

  • Name
  • Place of birth
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Photograph

If the Home Office created your UKVI account for you and the email address or phone number used for sign in is wrong, you can use this service to change them.

These need to be reported via: (link) www.report-error-evisa.homeoffice.gov.uk

You must continue to liaise with the local authority and the DWP to ensure that you are ready to move from asylum support at the end of your 28-day period.

Once the errors have been reported, if all information is supplied, you should receive a response within five working days regarding the errors you have reported and next steps. If you are in receipt of asylum support, then support may be automatically reinstated. You will receive written confirmation if your support has been extended. If this is not received, you will be expected to leave.

If a response is not received within five working days, you can make a complaint via:   https://www.gov.uk/complain-uk-visas-immigration
