We’re excited to share our co‑produced Introduction to Asylum Services video.

Over the past year, members of our Asylum Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP), i.e. people with lived experience of Migrant Help’s Asylum Services, collaborated with staff members to create a video for other clients that is clear, reassuring, and informative.

Why We Made This Video

Our LEAP members reviewed the experience of our asylum clients and identified that there is sometimes confusion about who Migrant Help are and our role in the asylum process. They wanted to create an accessible resource to reduce clients’ confusion and anxiety and help them understand how and when to contact Migrant Help for support.

How We Co‑Produced It

The LEAP and staff members met every fortnight in online meetings to participate in creative sessions to develop and decide on the script, tone, visuals, and filming location of the video. We then partnered with a videographer to turn their ideas into a reality, and we recruited more staff members to appear in the video. LEAP members even helped with the shooting of the video getting stuck in with lighting, sound and operating the teleprompter on the day and one did a voiceover for the film.

The video provides a brief explanation of who Migrant Help are and how we support people going through the asylum process. It also includes ways to contact us, with easy-to-understand language and animations and subtitles in the top 11 languages spoken by our clients to increase its accessibility.

Promoting our Video

LEAP and staff members considered how and where to promote the video for maximum reach and have set impact targets. The video is available on our Migrant Help YouTube channel here. The group has also created three short clips to be used on social media after identifying that many clients use these platforms to find information.

We would be extremely grateful if you would watch the video and share with any individuals or organisations that may find it useful.
