Your kindness can keep a child warm this winter. The cold has already crept in — damp mornings, sharp winds, long grey days. This week, I met a family who had just arrived in the UK. Their children were still wearing light summer T-shirts and flip-flops. Because that’s all they had when they fled. Every time I visit, I see this again and again. Young people arriving with almost nothing; parents doing everything they can to keep their children warm and well. Mums tell me they don’t want their children getting sick, and they don’t want them feeling different or left out at school. A warm coat isn’t just protection against the cold. It’s belonging, comfort and dignity. It’s the difference between being shut inside and being able to walk to school, play outside, and feel like you belong. Right now, we’re trying to get 75 children and young people into proper winter coats before the coldest weeks arrive. Each warm, well-fitting coat costs around £10 — and it means a child can face winter feeling safe and included. £10 can help buy a warm coat for a young person arriving with nothing. £20 could provide a coat, hat and gloves for a young person arriving with nothing. £40 could fund a winter care bundle — warm clothes, coat, gloves and socks for a young person facing the cold with nothing. You may have seen the government announce major reforms to the asylum and human-rights framework. These changes are some of the biggest in a generation and many people seeking safety are already feeling anxious about what this could mean for them. We remain focused on protecting people who have fled war, exploitation and danger, and on working with partners to help build an asylum system that is fair and protects those who need it most. That’s why support for refugees matters now more than ever. Should you be in a position to help, your contribution will help us to continue offering small acts of care that can restore hope in these challenging times. 👉 Donate to keep children warm Manage Cookie Preferences
