The UK government’s new Emergency Alerts system is now live, and the service will be tested nationally on Sunday 23 April between 3-3.30pm. The system will enable people to be contacted via their mobile phone, warning them in the event of emergencies, such as severe flooding.

In partnership with the UK Government, the Voluntary and Community Sector Emergencies Partnership has published fact sheets in a number of community languages.

It is important to note that if you’re a survivor of domestic abuse with a secret or secondary phone, the government’s new Emergency Alerts could reveal your phone even if it’s on silent.

If you have a phone hidden from an abuser, turn off 'Emergency Alerts' via settings to prevent it becoming detectable - this might vary based on Android and iPhone, but if this does not work, please contact your device manufacturer. For further advice go to: gov.uk/alerts/opt-out
