In an instant, families lost their homes, their safety, and the lives they had built. That is the reality of forced displacement.

Our short film Leaving captures this truth with dignity. Written by British-Somali poet Momtaza Mehri and voiced by acclaimed actress Adjoa Andoh, it was recognised as Best Large Charity Film at the Third Sector Awards 2025.

But more importantly, it reflects the lived experience of the families Migrant Help supports every day.

No one chooses to be a refugee

Families we meet didn't want to leave their homes. Violence, persecution or disaster gave them no choice.

When they arrive here, frightened and exhausted, compassion can transform despair into safety, dignity and hope.
