Childcare during Asylum Interviews There is currently no childcare available at Home Office sites. Interviews of single parents will generally be scheduled when school-age children are attending school. Claimants who are invited to interview who have young children that require childcare and who are unable to make alternative care arrangements, should contact the Home Office using the contact details provided on the invite to interview notice to reschedule their interview. The Home Office may seek alternative ways for information to be gathered, for example a witness statement, questionnaire, and documentary evidence. Where no other childcare is available, there may be exceptional circumstances where babies may be present in the room whilst the interview is taking place. For example, the parent would prefer to be present with the child (e.g. due to the need to breastfeed), the child is younger than 12 months old, will not be able to understand the content of the interview, are not distracting to the claimant (e.g. because they are napping.
