The trafficker had a gun.

And he was shouting: “The baby can’t come.”

Ela and her husband had fled their home with their nine-month-old daughter after extremists threatened to kill them. They were desperate.

They had already survived a terrifying journey through Iran, Turkey, Greece and France. In Calais, they spent a month in the makeshift refugee camp known as “the Jungle”, trying to find a way to reach safety in the UK.

Then - one night - the trafficker told them it was time. But only the two of them could go.

Armed and aggressive, he made it clear their baby couldn’t go with them: refuse, and he might kill them all.

And so - sobbing, shaking, terrified - they handed their baby to strangers in the dark, not knowing if they’d ever see her again.

When they arrived in the UK, Migrant Help was there.

Our team worked around the clock - liaising with the Home Office, local authorities, and international agencies - to trace their daughter. We supported the family through trauma, fear and legal limbo.

Weeks later, their baby was finally brought to London. The family was reunited.

Today, they are safe and rebuilding their life together.

This is what standing with refugees means.

It means being there when a mother is sobbing for the child taken from her.

It means fighting through red tape to reunite a baby with their family

It means offering dignity, safety and healing when everything else has been torn away.

Will you help bring safety and hope to families in crisis?

Yes, I'll donate now

It’s hard to imagine making a choice like this - handing over your baby to save her life.

But this is the reality for families fleeing horrors most of us will never face.

While a small, angry minority spreads lies about people “coming here for an easy life,” you know the truth:

Refugees are running from terror - not chasing a luxury lifestyle.

Please, if you can, donate today. Your support helps reunite families like Ela's and reminds the world that kindness is louder than hate.
