In some traumatic circumstances, we might need additional and more specialised support to help cope with a bereavement. It’s important that we look after our own and each other’s wellbeing. Here are some resources to help you get started: Mental Health resources for Hongkongers: Thrive LDN has produced a series of resources to support Hongkongers in accessing mental health support and managing their wellbeing. This might be useful for your signposting. Barnardo’s Boloh Helpline (0800 151 2605 / [email protected] ): Barnardo’s is a registered charity that runs a hotline and service dedicated to supporting Hong Kong BN(O)s, with Cantonese speakers available to answer your queries. The service operates Monday-Friday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturdays from 10-3pm. You can request free counselling services through this hotline. SIGNSS - Thrive LDN mental health conversation starter: A conversation starter tool to help you engage with friends, family, neighbours or those you support in your community or workplace about good mental health, wellbeing and financial worries. If you feel that you need help straight away, or you feel very distressed, please contact our friends at Samaritans on 116 123. They are always open and calling is free of charge. Support with the cost of living: Government support: As part of the Hong Kong Welcome Programme, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities has allocated funding of up to £2,720 per BN(O) household for destitution support. You must access this support via your local authority, and it will be for each local authority to decide what assistance can be provided to BN(O) status holders and their families based upon an individual assessment of a person or household’s status, circumstances, and support needs. Webinar: Financial support options for BN(O)s: The Yorkshire & Humber SMP is delivering a series of online info sessions on financial support options for BNO visa holders. All sessions are the same and dates and times are below, with more details on the attached leaflet. Monday 30th January 2023, 12noon – 1pm Tuesday 7th February 2023 6pm – 7pm Saturday 25th February 2023 11am – 12noon The sessions will include interpretation in Cantonese and Q&A session at the end. There is a specific section for Hong Kong Londoners, and also resources to support the welfare of those with NRPF. If you have the NRPF condition, do not have any immigration status, or have limited entitlement to benefits you may be able to access some support from other avenues. The following charities and organisations may be able to offer you support or further advice: The Unity Project provides advice and assistance in applying to lift the NRPF condition. You can contact the organisation by filling out the online form here, or email them on [email protected] Project 17 supports those with families experiencing poverty to improve their access to local authority support. You can contact them by calling them on 07963 509044 or email [email protected] . the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants provides legal advice to migrants and people seeking asylum. Their legal telephone helpline number is 020 7553 7470 and it is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am to 1pm. Southall Black Sisters provides an NRPF fund for destitute migrant victims of gender-based abuse. You can contact them by phone on 0208 571 9595 (open Mondays to Fridays between 9am to 5pm,closed for lunch between 12:30 to 1:30pm) or via their online contact form here. The Trussell Trust website has a map with local food banks in London. You can also call one of their free national helplines for advice and support – for England or Wales, please call 0808 208 2138 to speak to a trained Citizens Advice adviser.
