Migrant Help is currently looking for a Finance assistant to join our dynamic and supportive Finance team on a fixed-term contract. There is potential for this to be extended or made permanent.

The successful candidate will be pro-active and adaptable, have demonstrable experience providing effective and efficient finance support, and be passionate about protecting our vulnerable clients.

As the Finance Assistant, you will work consistently to ensure the continuous development of the role and ensure that the service is delivered according to procedures and processes that are accurate, professional, and consistent at all times. There is a requirement of the role to monitor the service and react accordingly and in a timely manner to changing needs, with the resultant re-prioritisation of his or her work as necessary.

As the Finance Assistant your duties would include:

  • Input Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger invoices and credit notes onto Sage accounting system, ensuring nominal codes are correct and costs are attributed to Cost Centres.
  • Assist with the input of all payments and receipts to relevant Sage Ledgers.
  • Understand and maintain Sage Nominal ledger inputs.
  • Take ownership of the shared finance inbox, and allocate to senior staff accordingly.
  • Reconcile the monthly commercial card statement and urge returns as required.
  • Maintain Sage processing as required.
  • Reconcile Management Information with Financial Information and Invoices as per procedures.
  • Liaise with all Migrant Help Services and Support functions to ensure submissions are received to meet payroll deadlines.
  • Managing the cash requirements for all relevant services.
  • Daily bank downloads and reconciliations.

The experience and skills you need:

  • ​Previous experience in a Finance Assistant role / similar
  • Continuous Improvement and solution implementation
  • Intermediary to Advanced Excel Skills
  • Understanding financial controls and financial environment


What else to expect:

  • This post is subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • This is a hybrid role so there will be an expectation for you to attend the office as agreed with the line manager, additional training or meetings may require additional travel so flexibility will be required
  • The finance team operate Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 6pm, however you may, on occasion be required to work outside of these hours.
