Elena Hristova showcasing work created during art & therapy sessions

Volunteers are the heartbeat of a community. Their generosity in giving their time, is the gift that makes a difference to an individual’s life.

Our volunteers provide important support to the migrants, asylum seekers and victims of trafficking we work with via English language classes. Run twice a week from our offices, they are given the opportunity to learn vital English that will help them in life in the UK. These classes are animated and engaging with lots of images to help our clients to learn to speak English. With the levels of education received in native countries varying widely, the ability to engage clients is key. The passion of our volunteers ensures that these classes are engaging and enjoyable.

Sadly many of the people we work with have arrived into the country having suffered traumatic and life changing experiences. Every care is given to help clients overcome the experience. Talented volunteers offer unique support for our clients to express themselves. Art therapy classes hosted at our offices are one of the most popular classes attended. These classes give clients the opportunity to express themselves through art. We are proud to display the paintings within our offices and recently have begun to promote their public display. The pictures are spoken highly of by visitors with frequent comments made that these images are vibrant and rich in colour, and such a positive expression after darkness.

We are very pleased that Deeson a digital and creative agency based in Canterbury recently hosted some of the art created during our Art Therapy sessions hosted by Elena. You can read Elena’s blog post about the exhibition here.
